D.O.C. is a three-hour goalkeeper’s event that is focused on providing male and female goalkeepers with new insight and some inspiration in their path toward becoming a complete professional. Organised by Danilo Sgroi, in collaboration with Hamrun Hanin and aided by some well-known faces in Malta’s game, the event is focused on providing technical expertise and some insight into the psychological experiences of goalkeepers.

D.O.C – Determined, Outstanding, Confident

Marsaskala pitch will host a three-hour event dedicated to goalkeepers on Sunday 16th of February, between 9 am and noon. The name, D.O.C., derives from the informal reference to a ‘doctor’ where the camp is aiming to spend some time inspecting and ‘healing’ some technical struggles that the attending goalkeepers may have, while also providing them with some tools to deal with the psychological challenges they face during matches.

The three-hour event will be split with two hours focused on the technical aspects of goalkeeping, while a one-hour session will be focused on mental aspects.

The event is spearheaded by Danilo Sgroi and organised in collaboration with ‘Hamrun Hanin’. Hailing from Sicily, Sgroi was appointed a goalkeeper’s coach of the women’s department by San Gwann during the 2023/24 season, before moving on to lead within Hamrun Spartan’s club.

Besides the work on the pitch, he recently completed a Master’s degree in Sports Psychology, with his thesis focused on goalkeepers. Focused on lifting the level of goalkeepers on the Maltese islands and speaking about the event he said, “Although I’m not directly involved in women’s football this year, last season was truly a high point for me as I had the honour of learning so much from the girls I worked with. This is why the camp will have a special focus on women, who are contributing so much to Maltese football.”
