Hibernians announced that Kiley Norkus, 28, has joined the team as they bid to take the fight for the league title to the latter stages of the season. Hailing from the United States of America, Norkus joins following spells with, ASA Tel Aviv in Israel, Vikingur FC and Haukar in Iceland, as well as Telge United in Sweden. She played her college football with Eastern Washington University Athletics.
Norkus will be boosting the Paolites’ defence in the left-back position, which will likely see her slotting next to compatriot and summer signing Natalee Geren. The left-back position is one which the Hibernians have lacked depth in. Although Yolande Attard has done well to bridge the mid-season departure of Alessia Caschetto, it leaves Keith Gouder with limited options to rotate in the more attacking wide role. This seems to be something that the Paolites have addressed with Norkus’ arrival. Capable with both feet, the American could also fill in as a right-back if needed.
Besides defensive abilities, Norkus also has a knack for going forward and supporting the attack, which will suit Keith Gouder in the 4-3-3 system that has been most adopted by the team this season. However, Norkus’ abilities are also likely handy should he opt for a system with wing-backs. Standing at 176 cm tall, the American also brings more height to Hibernians’ back-line.
The defender could be in action against Mtarfa this Saturday (13th) at Mgarr Ground at 14:00. It will be the final match of the round for Hibernians before the league split is acted and they take the fight to their rivals in the top four.
