Following months of speculation about her future, Lexine Farrugia is confirmed to have made the move to Sampdoria, where she will be playing with the U19 squad. Originally reported by the Times of Malta, the move was also confirmed by the Malta Football Association earlier today.

This will be the first spell away from the shores of Malta for the sixteen year old. She played in Raiders Lija colours last season but questions about her future rose as she was not named as part of the group of players signing with Valletta Women, following the disbanding of the Raiders Lija partnership. Prior to her spell with Raiders Lija, Farrugia donned the stripes of Birkirkara.

Possessing flair, strong ball-carrying ability and an eye for goal, Farrugia is an exciting player for the future. She was most recently named in the Malta U17 Women’s National Team that secured a second-place finish in Round 1 of Group B3 in the UEFA U17 EURO Championship Qualification matches in the prior international break. Farrugia captained the side and started all matches, capping her appearances with a brace and two assists.

Sampdoria Women had a complicated summer, initially opting to pull their women’s sector citing financial troubles, before reportedly securing the necessary funding to continue the initiative.

Lexine Farrugia becomes the third Maltese player to join the side, with Rachel Cuschieri into her second season with the senior team in ebay Serie A, while youngster Nina-Lee Naudi secured a move earlier in the summer with the youth academy.
