The Blues appear to have settled toward a new coaching regime who will be taking over from Simon Spiteri. The team will be adopting a more unorthodox approach of having two leading coaches in Christian Curmi and Brandon Spiteri.
Christian Curmi will be making his first foray into leading a women’s team after having previously occupied coaching and administrative roles for the male teams of Santa Lucia and Ta Xbiex at U19 and senior level.
Brandon Spiteri continues to operate at the club following spells coaching the U16 and U17 teams of Mtarfa Zebbug (MZ) and Mtarfa Mgarr Zebbug (MMZ), respectively. He makes the step into senior team leadership with this coaching change.
No formal announcement has been made by the club. However, The Sporting Fan understands that while former coach Simon Spiteri will no longer be leading the women’s senior team as head coach, he is still expected to be involved in the running of the women’s sector of the club.
The lacklustre performances of the Blues this season have left them without any points and they will be hoping that change in leadership can spark the team towards a different direction.
The new coaching team have been leading the players’ sessions since the beginning of the final phase, which has been confirmed to be the permanent setup going forward. Although starting with two defeats to San Gwann and Valletta, and so yet to notch their first points this season, the duo will hope that they can improve performances toward a stronger end to the season.
The team returns to action with a clash against nearest rivals Lija Athletic on Friday at the Victor Tedesco Stadium 20:30.
