New Women’s Football Structure Within The Malta FA Confirmed

The gap created by Pierre Brincat in his retirement from Director of Women’s Football will not be directly filled. This is based on the feedback provided by the Malta FA, following fresh requests for information sent by The Sporting Fan. The Malta FA has confirmed a change in roles, with sight set on further recruitment and that the sector will form part of Vice President Ing. Trustin Farrugia Cann’s portfolio, along with other areas.

Questioned about the topic, the official response received stated that, “The Malta FA has implemented the changes below due to several changes within the Women’s Football Office, which impact the wider women’s football community.”

The Malta FA confirmed that Manuela Tesse will have a dual role, both as the Head Coach of the National Team and as the Technical Coordinator over women’s football in Malta, with responsibility for the development of women’s football.

Meanwhile, long-time Administrator, Dorita Agius, who served under Pierre Brincat’s leadership as Director of Women’s Football, has assumed the role of Manager on the Administration of Women’s Football.

The Malta FA did not provide an overall organisation structure of the women’s sector, thus the full extent of changes, the hierarchical nature of the roles mentioned, and the exact size of the women’s sector within the Malta FA is still unclear.

However, the Malta FA confirmed that the wider organisation, “together with the Administration and Technical Coordinator of Women’s Football, are working to strengthen the overall setup of Team Managers through the addition of personnel and targeted training. Additionally, enhancements are also being made in the media field, with the introduction of a part-time Media Officer dedicated solely to Women’s Football.”

As noted above, Ing. Trustin Farrugia Cann has been named the Vice President in charge of Women’s Football and also has the Estate Management for Regional Stadiums and Ta’ Qali Complex within his portfolio, as was established during an Executive Board Meeting last November.
