It has only been a few weeks since the final whistle was blown and Swieqi United lifted the Assikura Women’s Knockout trophy. Next season provides new opportunities for success, and several clubs have started making moves in search of future glory. This is your roundup of all the actions announced so far in the women’s sectors.
Swieqi United FC
The Owls kicked off with the announcement of new women’s senior coach Saviour Darmanin who will also be assuming duties in a technical director role for the women’s sector. You can catch up on what the new coach had to say about his vision for the side here.
The club followed the news by announcing that Ghanain International and first-team goalkeeper Cynthia Konlan also penned a deal keeping her on our islands for the next two years.
Hibernians FC
The side made a solid return to the women’s senior league, in fourth place just one point adrift of Mgarr United and pushing them to the final day of the season. Additionally, they ended the season as runners-up in the Assikura Women’s Knockout.
Since then the club has been announcing several staff signings and retentions. In relation to the women’s team, Kenneth Costantino takes over as the Women’s team technical coordinator. Meanwhile, having done a stellar job in the club’s return in the Assikura Women’s League and Assikura Women’s Knockout, Keith Gouder has been trusted to continue the project for next season as the senior women’s team head coach. In the youth academy, Kathleen Saliba makes a return to the club as she takes over the coaching of the U16 women’s team.
Raiders FC
Earlier in May, Raiders FC confirmed that Denis Guerra will be continuing his work with the senior women’s team and also in his technical director role. In the Assikura Women’s League, the side pushed Hibernians and Mgarr United throughout the season in mid-table. The senior team also made it to the semi-final of the Assikura Women’s Knockout, losing to eventual winners Swieqi United. On the other hand, the U21 side lifted the Assikura Women’s U21s Youth Knockout trophy for the second consecutive season.
On Thursday, the team teased further news in preparation for the upcoming season as they continue to build and eye further success.
San Gwann FC
On Thursday the club announced that Kurt Baldacchino will be retaining the role as Head of the Women’s Football Sector, while taking on the coaching of the U16s. In late May the club also announced the confirmation of Alayah Caruana and Kady Zammit who will be continuing their stay with the club.
Champions Birkirkara FC are yet to announce any changes, as do Mtarfa FC and Mgarr United FC.
