Rachel Cuschieri will continue to ply her trade in Italy, after securing a move to Genoa. She will join fellow Malta international Emma Lipman for the second time at club level. Birkirkara have announced the first senior signing in Cali Schechinger. However, with two weeks to go to the inaugural match of the Assikura Women’s League, it has bee eerily quiet on the Malta front.

Cuschieri Seals Genoa Move

The recent Malta centurion, Rachel Cuschieri, will continue plying her trade in Italy after completing a move to Genoa, following two seasons at Sampdoria. The move confirms a fifth consecutive season in Italy for the Maltese midfielder.

She becomes the sixth signing for Genoa, who have been busy in the transfer market. Cuschieri is another experienced addition to the side, having already secured titles across four different countries in her illustrious career.

The club also announced the arrival of Federica Di Criscio from Ternana this week, with previous announcements having also included Malta’s Emma Lipman.

Cuschieri & Lipman will reunite at club level for a second time, following a stint at Lazio which included title-winning season to secure a promotion to Serie A. Genoa will hope that the duo can help the team to spark a similar trajectory in the upcoming season in Serie B.

Birkirkara Welcome Schechinger

The defending champions made their first signing announcement yesterday, in wide forward Cali Schechinger. The twenty-three year old will be making her maiden foray into Maltese football, following a switch from Sunflower State FC in her native United States of America.

The American expressed her enthusiasm on the move, “I am super excited to be a part of Birkirkara FC this season. I am so thankful for the opportunity and look forward to playing alongside highly talented women. I am confident that I can contribute to the team’s ongoing success!”

Meanwhile, although the start of the Assikura Women’s League is officially just two weeks away, it has otherwise been an eerily quiet week in terms of transfers in Malta. While rumours of signatures run rife, clubs appear to be keeping their cards close to the chest for the time being.
