There is a new kid on the block. Raiders FC have announced full integration with Valletta FC to form Valletta FC Women for the upcoming 2023/2024 season.
The new side announced the merger late on Sunday, having teased a piece of big news earlier in the week. The public announcement confirmed that previous ties with Lija FC will be replaced by a full amalgamation with Valletta FC to form Valletta FC Women.
The Valletta girls’ nursery is reported to have gathered a group of thirty girls in its maiden year of operation. This group will merge with the academy of former Raiders Lija FC, who have had success by winning back-to-back knockout titles at the youth level while giving a few headaches in the senior’s appearances too.
Hinting at the structural changes within the Women’s game, the team announced that Valletta FC Women will be competing in all leagues i.e. seniors, U19, and U16 leagues, with the U13 also performing in the Grassroots Festivals.
In a public statement, the club confirmed that former Raiders FC Technical Director and Head Coach Denis Guerra will spearhead the coaching department of Valletta FC Women. The club also confirmed that Guerra will also still be the head coach of the senior women’s team under the new structure. In their public announcement, the side made it clear that Denis Guerra and his team from Raiders FC will work closely with Valletta Girls Youth Development Coach Julian Buhagiar, as they embark on this new journey together as Valletta FC Women.
Further details on the coaching structures and facilities to be used are still under wraps, with further news expected during the week. However, the club has indicated that the amalgamation brings with it new investment partnered with the existing culture fostered within the former Raiders FC club.
The newly formed club reiterated that its doors are open to those interested in joining the team and urged them to contact the side through its Facebook page.
