The Owls have made a splash in the transfer market, announcing the loaning of Cynthia Konlan to Al Hilal, whilst capturing a major one-year loan deal with Corinthians goalkeeper Patricia Araujo da Silva, nicknamed Paty.
Cynthia Konlan’s stellar season with the Owls caught the eyes of Al Hilal who were keen to secure her services on a one-year loan deal. The towering goalkeeper was a mainstay in goal last season, keeping a number of clean sheets as the team landed their first major trophy, the Assikura Women’s Knockout. Her performances also landed her the individual accolade as the best goalkeeper in the MFPA Best XI. Besides donning the shirt of Swieqi United, the goalkeeper also made headway by representing her nation at international level with Ghana.
The departure of Konlan leaves a major gap, however the Owls have completed their business swiftly, bringing a high-profile replacement in Paty. She makes the switch from Brazilian giants Corinthians, making her one of the most prominent players that will debut in the Assikura Women’s League this season. She will no doubt be a welcome addition to the squad for Saviour Darmanin, who will strive to steer the club to their maiden league title in his first year in charge. Though slightly less of a taller figure than Konlan, Paty brings forth excellent athleticism.
Making the switch from Corinthians means that Swieqi United’s new recruit also brings abundance of experience in winning titles. The twenty-six year old has had a trophy-laden six years with Corinthians, racking up a total of thirteen titles. She most recently won the Supercopa Do Brasil during this last season. The other trophies amassed with the team include winning the Libertadores three times, as well as the Campeonato Brasileiro and the Campeonato Paulista four times each.
The club has not only announced the signing for the senior team, but have also confirmed the arrival of Michaela Mifsud Gauci. She will be spending the season on loan with the Owls from Birkirkara FC and will be at the disposal of coach Dorianne Theuma as they bid to lift the Assikura Women’s Youth League.
