Swieqi United have bolstered their attack ahead of the final stage of the league campaign by bringing Brazilian striker Ana Jessica Araujo Rodrigues. The twenty-five year old joins the team from Operario FC in her home country, with this being her first experience outside of Brazil.
The striker appears to be raring to go with the new team, “Playing soccer is my greatest passion, and I am determined to conquer every challenge this new chapter holds. Moreover, I am eager to achieve the club’s goals and also to reach my personal goals. I am committed not only to the team’s success but also to developing my individual skills to contribute significantly to the history of Swieqi United.”
Swieqi United have not lacked goals, with their two Ghanaian strikers Salamatu Abdulai and Karima Abdulai both into double digits at this stage of the season. Their wide forward and midfielder units also chipped in with a number of goals, with Shona Zammit leading the bunch with six. This, while the team has also been boosted by the return of last year’s top scorer Jade Flask.
However, it seems that the team is searching for more depth in attack. The Brazilian striker is expected to bring a different kind of flavour to their forward line. Meanwhile, having gone into double figures in the past three seasons in her home country, Araujo Rodrigues will be hoping to quickly adapt to the Maltese league and replicate that goalscoring form for her new club.
Swieqi United announced the arrival of the Brazilian on Friday evening, one day following their 1-1 draw against leaders Birkirkara. The team will return to action against Mgarr United in the Greens’ home ground on Saturday 3rd February with a 14:00 kick-off.
