Mgarr United captured the signature of Birkirkara playmaker Veronique Mifsud, while Abigail Camilleri continued to commit to her hometown club. San Gwann sealed the signature of six players, as Valletta announced their youth coaching setup. Several of Malta’s foreign-based players are also expected to switch teams over the summer.

Greens Seal Veronique Mifsud’s Signature, Abigail Camilleri Extends

Veronique Mifsud has decided to swap the stripes of Birkirkara for the green of Mgarr United in a move that stirs some questions into the Assikura Women’s League next season. A keen creator, Mifsud rose through the ranks of Birkirkara, debuting with the senior team at just fourteen years old and has since clinched titles at both youth and senior level.

Coming off a strong season with the Stripes, Mifsud had a consistent run of form to support the team in earning the treble, while bagging eight goals, including a stunner against the Greens. Bringing title-winning pedigree into the team, Mifsud’s signature signals intent from the team to make amends for last year’s slip in ranking. Having also extended Brenda Borg’s stay, Mgarr United appear keen on boosting the creativity in midfield.

The team have also retained key experience in the team as long-time servant Abigail Camilleri also extended her stay with the club. Often trusted in the centre of defence or on the flanks, the left-footed veteran is also capable of the spectacular.

Camilleri spoke about her extension with sights sets on taking the Greens forward, “I am really proud to sign again with my hometown club, the club I love. Looking forward to the upcoming season and achieving our shared ambitions.”

Valletta’s Coaching Staff Continues To Take Shape Amid Youth Signings

Having announced their senior coaching staff last week, Valletta have confirmed that Francesco Galluzzo will be leading the U19 team next season, while supporting Julian Buhagiar as assistant coach for the U16s. On his part, Buhagiar will continue building on last season’s impressive debut as U16 coach, having led the side to the Knockout final. Buhagiar will also support Galluzzo as assistant coach for the U19 team. Meanwhile, the club also secured the services of Melissa Galea, as the U13 coach, who makes the switch from the recently disbanded SKMM.

San Gwann Continue Hibs, Santa Lucia Swoop

The Yellows have continued bolstering their youth setup with more signings transferring from Santa Lucia and Hibernians. The club secured four signings from the Santa Lucia setup, in Valentina Farrugia, Maya Mallia, Lexi Sant and Cenere Leone Ganado.

Meanwhile, Jeanelle Falzon and Naomi Blundell also made the swap to the Yellows from Hibernians, with the duo having operated in centre-back and as full-back for the Paolites in the Assikura Women’s Youth League last year.

On the other hand, the team will no longer enjoy the services of goalkeeper coach Danilo Sgroi who took over last year, but will be seeking new experiences this season.

Mtarfa

The Blues confirmed the departure of goalkeeper Amy Mizzi from the team. Despite limited appearances, Mizzi impressed when trusted between the sticks and will definitely be missed as the Blues attempt to get themselves back on the up next season.

Several Foreign-Based Players Seeking New Pastures

Malta’s contingent will be taking on the Northern Ireland (tomorrow at the Centenary Stadium, KO 19:30 CET) and Portugal on Tuesday (19:00 CET, Municipal Stadium of Leiria). Several of the players in the selected squad who were plying their trade abroad are expected to be moving this summer, as confirmed by the press-release by the Malta Football Association.

Goalkeepers Maya Cachia and captain Emma Lipman are expected to be on the move from Como, while Raisa Costantino appear to be seeking new pastures, having spent the last months with SPD Tharros.

Rachel Cuschieri and Lexine Farrugia will also both be departing Sampdoria. Cuschieri departs having been a consistent figure in the team as they secured their best ever tally in Serie A. Farrugia impressed in the U19 league and made her senior debut against Juventus in her first year away from Malta.

Maria Farrugia is also confirmed to have departed Lewes Women following their relegation to the third-tier in England. Likewise, Maya Lucia and Kailey Willis appear to be moving on from Osijek and Venezia respectively.
