Birkirkara have announced that they will be hosting the matches of Group 11 in the first round of qualifying of the UEFA Women’s Champions League in Malta next September. This will be the second time that they are hosting, with the first time being in August of 2012. That year they welcomed Olimpia Cluj, Glentoran Belfast W.F.C. and Sociedade União 1º Dezembro.

This year, the first match will be played at the Centenary stadium at 6 pm on Wednesday the 6th of September. It will pit the Stripes against ZFK Breznica, the Montenegrin champions, in what will be the first encounter between the two.

The winner of that tie will face FC Zurich in a match that will be played the following Saturday, 9th September. Birkirkara’s progression from the first match would see them meet the Swiss team for the second time, after having already encountered them in 2017. On the other hand, it would be the first encounter between Zurich and ZFK Breznica, should the latter progress.
