The club announced the signing of sixteen year old Maltese forward, Sara Saliba, earlier today. She becomes the fifth signing for Pomigliano Women who will be competing in the Serie A in Italy next season. Her announcement follows that of forward Aryana Harvey and midfielders Marianela Szymanowski, Lucie Tengue and Domi Greis. Speaking to the club’s media, Saliba noted her enthusiasm in joining the Serie A outfit, “I am happy to be here because it is a great environment and a good experience.”

The young forward makes the leap into the Italian club following a successful season with Birkirkara, marked by lifting the senior league title, the super cup, and the U21 Assikura Women’s Youth League title. Her individual efforts were also recognised with numerous accolades, including being named the MFA Best Youth League player, the MFPA Best Young Player and being listed among the MFPA Best XI.

Indeed, last season Saliba netted eleven goals in the Assikura Women’s League, while also having a strong return in the Assikura Youth League. Besides her ability to find the back of the net as the central striker, the forward was also often employed on the wings, enabling her to make a number of assists. She was also in the starting eleven in a mid-season friendly between Birkirkara and Manchester United Women.

At international level, the sixteen-year old also got purchase in the U19 national team’s UEFA Euro Women’s Under-19 Championship qualification matches, netting three goals in two appearances against Armenia and the Faroe Islands.
